The Data Protection Act 1998 – Statement of Club Policy
The Data Protection Act 1998 imposes rules and safeguards on those who hold and process personal data that can identify living individuals.
Generally, details of individual and organisations holding such data must be given to the Information Commissioner. Certain ‘not for profit organisations’ are exempted from notification, but must obey the principles of the Act.
The Boscastle and Crackington Gig Club is exempt from the Act, although the Club wishes to inform members about the sort of information held and how it might be used.
The Club holds all or some of the following information on members, a term that includes Full, Supporter, Life, Family and Junior members:
Name, Address, Postcode, Date of Birth, Telephone/Mobile/Fax numbers, email address, CPGA qualifications
The Club will not hold unnecessary information and will remove any data found to be not required
The Club uses this data for purposes connected with the normal running of the Club and gig rowing, such as sending correspondence and magazines, organising training and competitions.
Data may be published on our website, for example, in racing results, but only names and possibly a photograph. No other personal details will be shown without the specific consent of the person concerned.
The data will not be available for Commercial Purposes
